We decided to gather together a group of folks who are living their lives through the defining lens of reconciliation. They are doing it in different ways, places and contexts; but they see life as holistically activated by the ends and means of joining lives. This book, Joining Lives: A Primer on the Ministry of Reconciliation, is the culmination of that gathering. Journey with each contributor along a simple path into their life as a reconciler. Think together with us as we explore what we actually mean when we say “reconciliation,” how we understand work, what the church’s role is in their community, how to be a neighbor, healthy ways to engage in community development, thinking through race and beloved community, how art brings us together, being friends with the disabled, loving strippers, and how to be sure we are taking care of ourselves.
Chris Heuertz says,
In Joining Lives, a canon of imaginative theological practitioners bring to life time-tested ideas through embodied sacrifice – that’s what gives this handy book such credibility, that the words were first written through the daring love of those who then were able to pen them. It’s rare to find such a committed group of SHEroes and heroes fighting for the ‘new we.’ Joining Lives is their testament of reconciliation, and an invitation for the rest of us to join in.
We hope that our witness can spur you on toward love and good deeds.
