I like to watch a show on Animal Planet called Whale Wars. If you haven’t seen it, it’s about a group that goes out to try and stop Japanese whalers from killing whales. It’s a good thing they are doing and it’s also good tv. It’s kind of like the Three Stooges on boats.
It makes me wonder though, with reality tv being all the rage, why am I not seeing shows such as Homeless Wars? Shows that cover the struggles of the homeless in America. Shows that tell the story of organizations like Church on the Street and others that are quietly fighting the good fight for the homeless.
I don’t want to sound whiny or dismiss the work being done by other organizations. I just think that more attention should be paid to the ones that are hurting all around us. Homeless and otherwise.
I’ll get off of my soap box now.
