[Posted by Sylvia Broome, member of the Church on the Street community and director of women’s and human trafficking ministries] My daughter had surgery in May. I was impressed by the gentle and reassuring attention from the nurses, the thorough conversation with the doctor prior to the surgery, and the visit from the anesthesiologist who […]
The New York Times has an article about the research and new book from Dr. Carl Hart from Columbia University that makes for a potentially paradigm shifting encounter. What is most encouraging is that it helps us, and other communities like ours, to think even further and deeper about the implications and power of belonging and […]
I was down at Church on the Street today gathering information for our social media outreach. During lunch I was walking around to the various tables just to say hello and see how everyone was doing. As I was going around one of the young ladies, who is homeless, was looking at me […]

Cleaning, clothing closet operation, work on resumes, etc. We have a couple of old desktop computers and a printer//copier/fax machine. The two computers we have are rather old and have come […]

Today is the start of our first annual blue jean drive. We take in these donations and then give them out to homeless members of our community as they are needed. We set an initial goal of 100 pair, but we may be aiming low. If you would like to donate a pair of jeans […]
I pulled into the parking lot at Church on the Street this morning to find one of the homeless members of our community busy working on cleaning up the parking lot. He had his rake, leaf blower and dust pan and he was working up a storm. I really can’t tell you how awesome that […]
We have the task of educating people outside of our community on what we do in our community. It’s a difficult task at times because when someone finds out we work with many homeless people in Atlanta, they automatically think that we are a shelter or a soup kitchen. We are neither. We do meals […]
